AI Enablement Program for Telecom Team
Structured AI enablement program trained 120 people across ConnectRO, enabling them to launch 8 AI projects within 3 months.
The Challenge
ConnectRO, a Romanian telecom operator with 3M+ customers, wanted to embed AI into their operations—customer service chatbots, network optimization, fraud detection, churn prediction. But the engineering and product teams had minimal AI experience. Hiring dozens of new AI specialists would take time and was expensive. ConnectRO needed to upskill existing teams quickly.
The Solution
We designed a structured 3-month enablement program targeting different audiences: 2-day executive briefings for leadership, 4-week hands-on bootcamp for 30 engineers, 2-week product training for 20 product managers. The bootcamp covered fundamentals (Python, ML basics), then practical projects (building a churn prediction model on ConnectRO data, deploying a chatbot). Product training focused on AI strategy, measurement, and decision-making.
ConnectRO's leadership wanted AI across the company. The problem: nobody knew how to build it. Hiring 20 new AI specialists would take 6 months and cost millions. Instead, they invested in training the talent they had.
Program Design
We tailored the program to different audiences. Executive leadership (15 people) got a 2-day strategy session covering AI opportunity, ROI, governance, and competitive advantage. We grounded it in telecom specifics (network optimization, customer service, fraud detection) so they understood what was possible.
Engineering teams (30 people) went through an intensive 4-week bootcamp. Week 1 covered Python fundamentals and ML basics (supervised learning, model evaluation). Week 2 focused on applied projects: they built a churn prediction model using ConnectRO's customer data. Week 3 covered deployment and operations. Week 4 was hackathon style—teams proposed their own AI projects and built prototypes.
Product managers (20 people) took a lighter 2-week course focused on AI literacy: how to evaluate AI solutions, what to measure, where to find value. Less math, more strategy.
Results & Sustainability
By the end of the program, 120 people across ConnectRO had foundational AI literacy. More importantly, 8 teams had launched or were launching AI projects: a customer churn prediction model (predicting which customers might leave), a network optimization system, a fraud detection enhancement, and more.
The program created a self-sustaining culture. ConnectRO established internal "AI Office Hours" where engineers could ask questions, share learnings, and mentor each other. That peer knowledge-sharing became more valuable than any instructor.
Long-term: ConnectRO reduced dependency on external consultants, improved time-to-value on AI projects, and created a talent retention advantage (people want to work where they're learning).
